McKinney Basement Remodeling
We have completed a basement remodeling project in McKinney, Texas. The new homeowners bought the house recently mainly because of the basements’ potential as a studio. To quote the owner, “It has good bones.” The job was significant in scope due to the poor condition of the basement.
The homeowners are both artists who liked the idea of working from home in a space that was completely dedicated to their work, without infringing on any living quarters. They were willing to invest in the large remodeling project, as it was a sound financial decision. They would be saving money long term by not needing to lease a separate studio space.
However, there were issues with the basement because it was neglected for a very long time. In fact, the house stood unoccupied and unmaintained for several years, before it was finally sold. There was significant wood rot and mold due to unrepaired moisture issues. Therefore, prior to any basement remodeling work, Dalworth Restoration crews had to repair the basement’s infrastructure and waterproof it. The homeowners did not realize the extent of repairs that were necessary, but once we explained how flimsy the structure was and the implications of making superficial repairs, they understood the importance of their investment. Without sound infrastructure, damage would continue to take place, contributing to basement deterioration that would eventually affect the whole house. Once the plan of work was decided on, our crews proceeded to remove a couple of nonbearing walls to make the area more open and free flowing.
After the basement was repaired, cleaned up and waterproofed, it was ready for some artistic touches. The homeowners had pretty unique ideas of how they wanted their workspace to look and after all the remodeling work was finished, the basement looked phenomenal. It was open and spacious and very conducive to getting the homeowners’ creative juices flowing. Most importantly, the basement was healthy and mold free. Moreover, the homeowners were pleased and felt the result was perfect for them and what they had in mind to accomplish, which is always the highest complement to our crews and our company.
