Select HEB High School Students Honored at iFly in Hurst, TX

Dalworth and 6Stones Mission Network Reward Select High School Students

Sixteen Hurst Euless Bedford (HEB) ISD high school students and Red Suit Flyingteachers known for soaring in the classroom and on their own campuses took literal flight, compliments of Dalworth Clean and Dalworth Restoration. The two sister companies paid for the students to learn how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum plays such a powerful role in skydiving and wind tunnels.

“We set out to create a way to reward deserving students for their achievements through grades, attendance and campus participation,” says Dalworth Restoration Chief Information Officer Josh Hobbs. “Once we visited iFLY’s facility in Hurst, we knew this would be an excellent way to reward them for their efforts while also providing a practical learning experience.”

Dalworth worked closely with 6Stones Mission Network, a local non-profit based in Bedford, and principals and counselors from HEB ISD’s L.D. Bell, Euless Trinity and KEYS high schools to select these students.

The chosen high schoolers were thrilled to participate. According to one,Group Flying “I was so shocked. I went home and signed the paper and I kept waiting until now. Oh, work… I kept saying, ‘28th — I’m off.’ Every day I told work, ‘Make sure 28th — I’m off because I’m going indoor skydiving.’ I was very early. I was waiting for the bus. I couldn’t wait!”

Another shared, “We’re skydiving here today to learn about velocity and physics. When we’re learning about terminal velocity in Physics class, now I actually understand what it means to be at terminal velocity. It really helps with comprehension in the classroom and understanding after experiencing it yourself.”

iFLY flight instructor Andy (I will get you the last name) added, “We really want to show the STEM application to something that’s fun, something that’s relatable to kids out of the theater of academia. Outside the classroom, it’s much more fun to be here and learn about terminal velocity and equations for how to approximate that for each individual based upon surface area, mass and a variety of other factors. It was Girl Standingreally good to see the kids actually be interested in the engineering and the science behind it and teach them how to fly.”

The participating teachers, one each from L.D. Bell and Euless Trinity, are looking forward to in-class discussions with the students on how the iFLY experience will impact their understanding of science, technology, engineering and math.

Dalworth’s Hobbs explained why the company had paid for the afternoon’s adventure: “As a local business, it’s our responsibility to give back, and we partner with 6Stones Mission Network and HEB ISD to put this event on, and we’re proud to do so."

Thank You HEB ISD for Allowing Us to Spend this Time with Your Students!
